Who is Transition Coaching for?

Transition Coaching is for anyone who:

  • is facing a beginning or ending in their personal or professional life
  • wants to develop an effective plan of action, and follow through with it
  • is undecided as to a decision or direction, and wants clarity
  • is in-between roles.
  • is ready for a meaningful change
  • wants more personal energy

What does it mean to be in transition?

Transition (either pending or desired) is the core of what most people are facing --and sometimes fearing-- in their lives.

Whether you are closing down a business or trying to become a great pianist;  being in transition means you are experiencing a state of increased (and potentially disorganized) energy and decision. Although it may not feel like it, this extra energy can be harnessed effectively with proper tools and knowledgeable help.

In order to live the way we really want, we must grow adept at this skill of change. We must take control of our thinking, speech, and action, while staying focused on our values. Our success is 100% tied to our ability to transition well.

This is where a coach comes in.

To move successfully through transition, I support my clients to 1) clarify what is most important to them   2) set specific outcomes  and 3) stay focused on their strategic action plan .

Times of transition also mandate increased flexibility, a heightened sense of opportunity, and extreme self-care.

I help my clients apply these principals, and feel more comfortable and accomplished in the process. My clients consistently achieve greater results because of our work together.   This is quite simply because they decide that they deserve to have what all winners have: a coach.

Together, we stay focused on their strengths and goals, and greater success naturally follows.

What are the benefits of Coaching?

A better perspective on your life, greater results, and an increased sense of fulfilment. Have you ever started something new and then lost your momentum within a short time? Working with a coach, you build momentum on a weekly basis and stay focused on doing what you must do to have what you want. Working with a coach will reinforce your most effective behavior, and stop distraction and crises from derailing you.

With the help of a coach, you can also see your life from a new perspective, get honest & helpful feedback and pre-empt potential pitfalls (or at least have a helping hand through them).

As a side note, the skills you will learn during our work together are 100% transferable to other areas of your life. I respect your self-reliance and mastery, and therefore do not promote dependence or sell unnecessary sessions. All of my clients know how to make intelligent decisions... I see my roles as facilitating that happening more often.

How do I choose a the right coach for me?

before hiring any professional it is important to  speak with the coach on the phone or in person. Like anyone that you would hire, you should make sure that your coach  1) actively listens to you, 2) responds well to your requests,  3) has professional and life credentials and, 4) offers a satisfaction guarantee.

Most importantly, you should make sure you hire someone with whom you are going to feel comfortable discussing the truth, someone who inspires you to be the best you can be, and someone who understands your goals.

What are some ways I can find a coach?

Many of the finest coaches in the world came out of CoachU (click here for Coach U free referral service). Also, you may want to search an even wider field via the International Coach Federation.

NOTE: Another avenue altogether is to find a mentor and approach that person for guidance in a specific arena. I recommend also finding out early what is required from you as a protege.

Who are your clients?

My clients come from many different walks of life, from executives to waitresses. Many are at their core creative people, or want to follow through with a new project.  All my clients take 100% responsibility for their lives, and are willing to try new behaviors to make their lives better... much better.

Is transition coaching the same as therapy?

No. In our calls we will spend very little time discussing the past. Our focus instead will be on developing you into the person you really want to be, and removing obstacles to your success. If you are stuck in incapacitating, hopeless grief or indecision, than this is not the best service for you.

What if I am having a really hard time with a change? Can I call you?

Yes, provided that your intention is to move healthfully through your transition, by taking action on those things that you can.

How is coaching set up?

We would agree to work together for a period of time (usually 3 to 12 sessions), and speak at scheduled times. During your calls we will clarify what is really most important to you, and set specific action steps to ensure your success. You agree to be accountable, and I agree to support you in creating a fulfilling life for yourself. We partner, and you lead--following through on your "homework" every week.

What is your style?

I like to handle serious matters with a light touch. I have found that giant leaps forward are possible with the perspective that humor and lightness can bring: You've got to be far enough up the mountain to see the road between the peaks.  I say plainly and kindly what I notice, with the intention of bringing a fresh perspective. Of course, my number one priority to get to know YOU, and understanding what works for you.

What does coaching cost?

My fee is $75 per session (60 minute call).

How do I pay?

By check or Paypal

Do you offer a guarantee?

Yes, I offer a 100% money back satisfaction guarantee.

How do I sign up?

First, call me. We will interview each other and briefly discuss your goals. We will decide if we will work well together, and set up our first coaching appointment at a time convenient for you.

Can I call you at times other than my scheduled appointment?

Yes, and schedule permitting, I'll make myself available for 5 minute "check-in" calls at no charge. You can call me anytime to set up your next appointment, and are welcome to email me as well.

As your coach, I am a partner in your success, and enjoy making myself available to celebrate your victories with you.

What else do I need to know before setting up my first appointment?

That working with a coach is a kind of a calling. Either you feel it, or you don't. My goal is to support you in developing yourself into the kind of person who achieves your goals consistently, so that you complete our work together feeling empowered and complete. If you don't think you are ready for coaching, please don't call me. I can't help you to do what you are not willing to do for yourself.

In any case, congratulations for taking the first step and looking into coaching. There are many resources here that you are free to use and enjoy.

Blessings,

Transition Story by anon

The Baseball Player

A little boy was talking to himself as he entered through his backyard, baseball cap in place and carrying at baseball and bat. "I’m the greatest hitter in the world," he said proudly.

Then he tossed the ball in the air, swung and missed. Undismayed, he picked up the ball, threw it in the air and said to himself, "I’m the greatest hitter ever."

As the ball descended, he swung at it again and missed. He paused for a moment to examine the bat and ball carefully, then once again he threw the ball into the air and proclaimed, "I’m the greatest hitter."

As the ball came down, he gave another mighty swing and missed. "Wow," he exclaimed, "What a pitcher!"
